Our approach to education – Teacher Development

From the beginning of the 2017 academic year, the Trustees will adopt an innovative approach to investing in the improvement of education in South Africa through providing bursaries to deserving young people who are inspired to become future teachers. Addressing the shortage of teachers in South Africa, especially in the scarce skills such as Science, Maths, and Indigenous Languages.

    Targeted Bursaries

Our focus on training and creative development of inspired new teachers will, in turn, enhance and strengthen the basic education system in South Africa, especially in the area of teaching of Maths, Science and indigenous languages. Your support of the CIDA Empowerment Trust will make a
sustainable contribution to education, redressing the past racial, gender and class imbalances, and positively impacting on thousands of learners into the future

    WHY TEACHER DEVELOPMENT?

    • Quality teacher development will yield inspired teachers, the most significant component to producing quality students.
    • Inspired teachers will inspire students to strive for their fullest potential.
    • Obtaining a degree in Education multiplies those benefits, giving rise to an enhanced culture of learning for all young people.
    • On the job training and mentoring with motivated teachers will provide best-practice methods for inculcating lifelong, motivated learning in students
    • Teachers are the catalyst for inculcating life-long learning in young people and we at CIDA Empowerment Trust are committed to contributing to this.
    • To ensure successful university education, the Trust is developing a student support programme, encompassing life-skills, mentorship, and learnerships.

Return On Investment for Tertiary Education Investment

CIDA Empowerment Trust is seeking young people who have a special ‘calling’ to educational careers. The CIDA Empowerment Trust will apply a unique approach to teacher development, by facilitating internships to emphasise practical on the job teacher training throughout their university education, supplemented with any required psycho-social support for learners, ensuring a successful tertiary learning experience.

The CIDA Empowerment Trust will fund teaching degrees at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. For the bursary beneficiaries, the Trust will facilitate internships for practical, on-the-job training supplemented with any required psycho-social support, as well as best practice and creative educational precepts. This will ensure high quality and motivated teachers. The Trust will facilitate fulltime teaching opportunities to bursary recipients on completion of their studies, in both Private and Public schools, where graduates will be required to commit to a certain number of years of teaching.

The social and economic benefits of achieving a degree are vast and far reaching. Think economic empowerment, well-functioning individuals, families, and communities; and young people who are positive, productive members of society, with a vision for what the future holds.

Obtaining a degree in Education multiplies those benefits, giving rise to an enhanced culture of learning for all young people. Teachers are the catalyst for inculcating life-long learning in young people and we at CIDA Empowerment Trust are committed to contributing to this. As the Trust invests in students who are dedicated to enhance the development of all spheres of education, with an emphasis on scare skills, we believe that the return on that investment will be multiplied.
